Art transforms reality

Magdalena Deput is a painter and runs the “Malarstwo Niedzielne” blog, where she records the reality around her, filtered through her own imagination and sensibility. Her artistic practice includes work in eastern Greater Poland, where she is developing the “Licheń” series. Industrial machinery is an important theme in her work, including the SRs-1800 DOLORES excavator. Her paintings offer a perspective on the industrial landscape not only as a space of work and economic activity, but also as an important element of local history, memory, and identity.

Iona Barbu is an artist and activist and the initiator of the “Planet Petrila” project, dedicated to the preservation, documentation, and reinterpretation of post-industrial heritage. As part of JTC, we invited him to create an artistic project on a historic electric locomotive that until recently operated in a Konin mine and was commonly known as the “Crocodile.” Through an original artistic intervention, the “Blue Crocodile” has acquired a new meaning and context while retaining its value as a tangible testimony to the history of industry and the region’s working heritage.

#trzeciTOR is a project by Mariusz Harmasz, an artist and photographer documenting the changing industrial landscape of Eastern Greater Poland.

His work combines photography, ready-made art, and music influenced by dub, techno, and post-punk. He is also involved in protecting and promoting the region’s post-industrial heritage.

He is a co-initiator of efforts to preserve the DOLORES excavator and an organiser of exhibitions devoted to the history of the Konin Industrial Region.

For over ten years, he has photographed industrial sites, structures, and infrastructure, many of which no longer exist. His photographs are not only artistic works, but also a record of the changes taking place in the region.

Adam Jaroński is not an artist. His unique photographs document the closure of mines and the changes associated with the phasing out of the extractive industry.

Over the course of four years, he has created a photographic account of miners’ work, the dismantling of machinery, and the decline of mining railways. He is also a co-creator of a project aimed at preserving the DOLORES excavator.

His photographs document an important moment of industrial transformation in the region.
